As is the case each year, my friend and collegue Jason Gross has published his Best Music Scribing Awards list, this time at the BMW-endorsed Pop Matters site. As he states in his introductory essay, Jason has leaned more and more towards hard news pieces in the last few years and the subjects tend to be more industry/insider oriented or macro overviews of music industry problems. I really love these articles but, as an editor of a book whose purpose is both to collect a moment in time and show work that transcends its periodical nature, I often leave these pieces on the cutting room floor. It's great to know that there's a place where they can be shared and collected. Kudos to Jason, especially for his thoughtful survey of the last year's publishing dramas and for his thoughts on the ongoing crusade to find more non-US/UK writers to read.
